What is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a type of malicious software, or malware, that is designed to block access to a computer system, files or data until a ransom is paid to the attacker. This is usually done by encrypting the victim's files, which makes them inaccessible, and then demanding payment in exchange for the decryption key.

Ransomware can be distributed through a variety of methods, including email attachments, compromised websites, or social engineering tactics that trick victims into downloading or installing the malware. Once installed on a victim's computer or network, the ransomware will begin encrypting files and displaying a message that demands payment in exchange for the decryption key.

Paying the ransom is not a guarantee that the victim's files will be decrypted, and it can also encourage attackers to continue targeting victims with ransomware attacks. It is therefore important to have backups of important data and to use security software to protect against ransomware and other forms of malware.

Ransomware Prevention

CLSpace "Offsite-Backups"

When ransomware strikes, it’s not your data that’s at risk, but your whole business. A robust data protection strategy with immutability and offsite backups can be the difference between business as usual and all operations grinding to a halt. The processes that protect your data from ransomware are simple to implement and inexpensive compared to the potential cost of ransom payment (not to mention days to weeks of lost productivity).

Offside backup refers to the practice of backing up data at a location that is physically separate from the original data. The purpose of an offside backup is to protect against data loss in the event of a disaster, such as fire, flood, theft, or ransomware. By storing a copy of the data in a different location, it is possible to recover the data if the original data is lost or destroyed. Offside backups can be stored on a remote server or in a different physical location, such as a data centre or a cloud storage provider. It is important to regularly back up data offside to ensure that critical data is not lost in the event of a disaster.

Comparison based on 1000 GB
and 25% download.

CLSpace service charges are calculated in accordance with the terms described below.

What is the basis for the pricing claim that
CLSpace™ is 80% less pricey than AWS S3?

To better explain this comparison statement, let’s consider a simple example for 1 TB of storage
and 25% of this storage downloaded per month (250 GB):

  AWS S3 = [$0.2299/GB/month(storage)*1024 GB/TB] + [$0.09/GB(egress) * 250 GB] = $46.05
  CLSpace = $9.00/TB/month(storage)+ $0/GB(egress) = $9.00
  CLSpace total charges of $9.00 are ~80% less per month than AWS S3’s total charge of $46.05

Note that this is a simple example using CLSpace Cloud Storage pricing for US and European regions that doesn’t factor in additional AWS charges regarding API requests and other fees. For a more detailed examination of AWS S3 pricing, please review the AWS pricing calculator that can be found here.
